Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has harped on the need for investments to boost the economy and revenue of the state.

Ugwuanyi stated this at the opening ceremony of a two-day Agbaja Investment Summit in Enugu, yesterday, noting that indigenes of the state must think home at all times by contributing to its development through investments and job creation.

He stated that the Agbaja Summit, aimed at addressing areas of competitive advantage and ease of doing business, would complement government’s efforts towards making the “state investment friendly.”

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezilo, the governor said: “One of the cardinal objectives of the summit is provision of investment platforms for economic development, through networking and mentoring among local entrepreneurs and business leaders.

“The summit would, in addition to facilitating world class initiatives for employment creations and enhanced ease of doing business, as well as create platform for networking and experience sharing, honour and reactivate the enviable legacies of heroes of Agbaja cultural zone of Enugu.”

MEANWHILE, Greater Awgu Youth leaders have commended Ugwuanyi for bringing young people into governance.

The youth leaders, who spoke to journalists at the end of their meeting in Enugu, yesterday, said the opportunity to serve in government would prepare them for future challenges.

Spokesperson of the group, Uche Ume, said they are proud of the governor, assuring that they would continue to support him and his administration as law-abiding citizens of the state.

They thanked the governor for projects and appointments he had made at Greater Awgu, especially recent appointments of their son as Vice Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), commissioners and members of state-owned parastals.

IN another development, classmates of Ugwuanyi, 1987 Finance Class, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), have said the people of Enugu are lucky to have somebody like the governor at the helm of affairs in the state, especially at this critical period in the country.

The governor’s classmates said they are delighted and grateful to God that Ugwuanyi has remained humble, peaceful, focused and visionary as he was during their days in the university, stressing that they are proud of him.

They made the commendation when the governor hosted them to a cultural dinner held at the Government House, Enugu, as part of re-union programmes in Enugu, 35 years after their graduation.

The dinner followed a visit to the Department of Banking and Finance, UNEC, the next day, which brought back memories of their toil, fun and burning of midnight candles in pursuit of academic goals.
