Ugwuanyi tasks lawmakers on citizen’s welfare

Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has charged lawmakers in the State to prioritise the welfare of their constituents.Ugwuanyi spoke in Nsukka East constituency where he was endorsed for a second term in office during a Youth Empowerment programme. The scheme, sponsored by the member representing Nsukka East constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Chinedu Nwamba, saw to the empowerment of 40 youths with N50,000 each to enable them start a living.

Highly elated Ugwuanyi, who spoke to the people in vernacular, said the whole essence of governance was the welfare of the people. He hailed Nwamba for the initiatives, which he said should be emulated by other lawmakers in the State.

“I want to commend Hon. Nwamba for what is doing here today.Lawmakers should remember their constituents; they should empower their people. I came here to thank you for your prayers to our administration in and to support Nwamba in this his constituency empowerment.

“If any other lawmaker invites me, I will be there. I am happy the way you came out; it shows your support to our government and our party, the PDP,” the Governor said.Earlier in his speech, Nwamba had stated that he modeled the scheme in line with “the visionary Traders’ Empowerment programme and similar initiatives introduced by the Governor in Enugu State.”

“Accordingly, the programme has been packaged in the form of an open lottery draw for youths in the constituency where 40 lucky ones will go home with N50, 000. Each.“They are expected to use the money to set up businesses of their own choice and offer themselves the chance to have sustainable means of income.“It is my own way of encouraging the youths in this area and thanking them for the wonderful support and loyalty they have continued to extend to me as their representative, to His Excellency the Governor and to our great party, the PDP,” he further stated.

While disclosing that he had carried out several other empowerment programmes in the past, including medical outreaches, the lawmaker thanked Governor Ugwuanyi for “providing the leadership and inspiration that has made all these possible.

“We thank the Governor also for the unprecedented transformation that this constituency has undergone owing to the massive infrastructural and physical developments that he has carried out here.On the endorsement of the Governor by the constituents, he declared: “Your Excellency, be assured of our total, unalloyed, unflinching and unwavering loyalty and support now and come 2019.”
