UNESCO laureate Aremu seeks quality assurance in higher education

UNESCO Laureate and World Grand Chairman, World Accreditation Commission, (WAC), Profession Bashiru Aremu, has said that quality assurance in higher institutions of learning remains a strong yardstick for standards of institutions operating across national borders as well as for international recognition of qualifications.

Aremu stated this at the signing of a partnership between the WAC and the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP).

He disclosed in a statement that the partnership will boost data analysis, produce a scoping study, overall report data collection, and publication of research results in line with current issues, trends and challenges in education thereby, maintaining international quality assurance in line with the to fulfill WAC’s objectives or strategic priorities to produce recommendations.

Aremu who is also the Vice Chancellor, Crown University, notes that “WAC is aimed at facilitating links between quality assurance agencies and support networks of quality to assist in the development and use of credit transfer and credit accumulation schemes.

“It also targets enhance mobility of students between institutions (within and across national borders as well as enable members to be alert to improper quality assurance practices and organization and organize on request, reviews of the operations of members.”

Secretary-General, association of universities of Asia and Pacific, Professor Anoop Swarup, assured that AUAP will continue to live up to its term of the partnership, supporting WAC in the areas of policy analysis among others.
