The Bursar of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Mr. Victor Imagbe, yesterday escaped being kidnapped by gunmen who invaded his house along Sapele Road in Benin City.

An officer attached to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ugiagbe Alex Osaghae, who was on guard duty at the home of the bursar was killed by the gunmen, who took his rifle.

A police officer attached to the Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident.

He said the command had commenced manhunt for the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

Efforts to speak with the bursar was not successful as his phone was switched off.

It was, however, learnt that the kidnappers got to Imagbe’s house around 2:45am and opened fire on the NSCDC officer as they entered the compound, killing him on the spot.

The Public Relations Offer (PRO) of the Edo State Command of the NSCDC, Mr. Ogbebor Efosa, confirmed the killing.

The body of Osaghae was said to have been deposited at the Central Hospital mortuary in Benin City.
