UNIJOS governing council appoints first female registrar

The 14th Governing Council of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has appointed Dr. Rejoice Songden as new Registrar for the institution.

The 14th Governing Council of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) has appointed Dr. Rejoice Songden as new Registrar for the institution.

Until her appointment, which is for a term of five years, she was the Registrar of Karl Kumm University, Vom, Plateau State.

The council considered the report of its Selection Board, which interviewed candidates for appointment into the position and approved her appointment with effect from June 24, 2022.

A statement, yesterday, by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, Abdullahi Abdullahi, noted that Songden, who becomes the first female to be appointed as UNIJOS Registrar, was a Deputy Registrar in the Senior Staff Establishment Division of the university before she took a Leave of Absence to serve as Registrar of Karl Kumm University.

Songden, from Pankshin Local Council of Plateau, has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English from UNIJOS in 2002 and a Master of Arts (MA) in English from same university in 2012. She later enrolled in the same institution for a doctoral programme in English, which she successfully completed in 2018. She also possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

She joined UNIJOS in 2005 as an Administrative Officer II and rose through the ranks to the position of Deputy Registrar in 2020.
