The Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), Prof. Tanko Ishaya, has said that oath-taking is sacrosanct, which is a sacrilege if deliberately broken.

He also said that oath-taking, which is either made to God or fellow human beings, must be held unto tenaciously. Ishaya spoke yesterday at the induction ceremony of 152 Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) graduating students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the university.

The VC, who was represented by the Dean of Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Nestor Chagok, said: “An oath is a solemn promise made to God, a king or to a fellow human being. It is too attached to all truth of a statement or a contract. It is also an affirmation of a truth.

“Once an oath is administered, you have to adhere strictly to it. Failure of adherence to the term of the contract will turn into a curse.”

Ishaya, therefore, advised the graduating students to make good use of the laboratories at their disposal irrespective of ownership, noting that the best things of life are often free and sharable, and human beings all need each other to survive.

Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof. Nestor M.D. Chagok, urged the inductees to be good ambassadors of the university as they serve humanity.

He advised them to always remember to share their benefits with their alma-mater and also ensure the display of professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
