Unknown gunmen abduct NLC chairman in Cross River

The Cross River chapter chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ben Ukpebi, has been kidnapped from his CROSPIL Estate residence in Akpabuyo council area of the state.

A family source said he was whisked away by unknown gunmen at about 8:00p.m.

He said: “He was inside but got a call and decided to go out and receive the call. That was when they kidnapped him.

“We saw his slippers and glasses on the ground without any trace of him, as his abductors also took his phone. His family has been calling his line but it has been switched off since last night (Tuesday). And up till this morning (Wednesday), they have not contacted the family.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident, adding that the police had begun investigating the matter.

“The family came to report the kidnapping of the state NLC chairman to the command this morning (Wednesday). The story we have is that he was kidnapped from his residence in Akpabuyo and the police are already looking into it,” she stated.
