Varsity alumni seek partnership with management for institutional excellence

To ensure sustained academic excellence and impact, the Madonna University Alumni Association has reiterated its stance that strong collaboration between the association and university management is required.

The alumni body emphasised this during a strategic engagement between its new leadership and the university management at the Okija Campus, Anambra.

The delegation led by Faith Abassah sought to discuss the vital role of the alumni in mentoring undergraduates and contributing meaningfully to the growth of the institution and society.

She said: “A united alumni body working closely with the institution is essential for sustaining excellence and expanding the university’s impact.”

The body also urged students of the institution to embrace 21st century skill sets in order to boost their career potentials in a rather competitive labour market.

Abassah emphasised the changing nature of the job market, where employers now place increasing value on adaptability, digital literacy, emotional intelligence, and real-world problem-solving.

The alumni President, while reflecting on her post-graduation journey, encouraged students to take responsibility for their career paths early by acquiring both technical and soft skills, charging them to leverage platforms like LinkedIn, seek internships, complete digital certifications, and embrace learning beyond the classroom.

Abassah stressed the importance of structured mentorship, noting that the alumni serve as a critical bridge between academic training and real-world professional experience.

She further reiterated the commitment of the new alumni leadership to fostering a stronger, more productive relationship with the university’s leadership.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Madonna University, Martin Osita Anagboso, reaffirmed that the success and global standing of academic institutions are largely built on active and committed alumni participation.
