VOW conference inaugurates committee, to host presidential candidates

In continuation of its commitment to amplifying women’s voices, especially as the country prepares for another general election, a seven-member committee has been inaugurated to steer the sixth edition

In continuation of its commitment to amplifying women’s voices, especially as the country prepares for another general election, a seven-member committee has been inaugurated to steer the sixth edition of the yearly Voice of Women Conference and Awards (VOW2022).
 

  
Chaired by Executive Director of Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, other members include Cynthia Mbamalu, Director of Programmes Yiaga Africa, Oluwatosin Dokpesi Managing Director, Princess Jummai Idonije, SSA to Minister of Women Affairs, Patience Dickson, Founder, Advocacy for Women with Disability International (AWWDI), Seun Olagunju, Head of Corporate Communications Bank of Industry and Aisha Falke, Founder, Northern Hibiscus.
  
Akiyode-Afolabi described the conference as a welcome development in gender equality discourse and another opportunity to set a gender agenda for the upcoming election year.

On behalf of the committee, she congratulated Women Radio for creating the platform for engaging policy.

  
CEO, Women Radio 91.7, Toun Okewale Sonaiya, said each member represents expertise from diverse fields and expressed confidence that the committee would diligently work to interpret and implement the mission of this year’s conference.

Okewale-Sonaiya said: “VOW2022 has extended an invitation to presidential candidates to attend in person to speak to women voters and representatives of the 47.1 per cent Nigerian women who voted in the 2019 elections. The candidates will be allotted equal time to present their 2023 and beyond plans and commitments to integrate women into the national agenda. 500 Nigerian women groups across the six geo-political zones will attend the physical conference with others attending virtually.”
  
The sixth edition, which holds on October 25 at NAF Conference Centre, Abuja would broadcast live.
