The West Africa Youth Parliament (WAYP) has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Grace Morenike Henry as the Chairman of the National Council of the Nigerian Legion.

A statement by the Speaker of WAYP, Olasunkanmi Kolawole, on Wednesday, described the appointment as a step towards promoting gender inclusion and national development.

Kolawole also described the appointment as historic, as the first female and the first non-commissioned officer to lead the Nigerian Legion.

The Parliament further acknowledged the notable developmental strides and policy structures introduced within the short period of her leadership.

According to him, with over 25 years of service in the Nigerian Army, “Henry has shown strong leadership and commitment to improving the welfare of veterans, retired personnel and their families.”

The Parliament commended Tinubu for appreciating the contributions and sacrifices of veterans through the appointment.

The statement said that WAYP honoured Henry with the “Africa Youth Icon of the Year” award in recognition of her leadership and humanitarian efforts in supporting ex-servicemen, women and vulnerable groups.

“This is in recognition of her outstanding leadership and humanitarian contributions,” he said.

He said that the award was to celebrate her passion, service delivery, and unwavering support for vulnerable groups across society.

WAYP expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for recognizing the sacrifices and needs of veterans and fallen heroes.
