Chief Executive Officer of the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc, Ude Shankar Mitshell, has disclosed that they have plans of distributing 500,000 meters in tiers to their customers in Plateau.

Chief Executive Officer of the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc, Ude Shankar Mitshell, has disclosed that they have plans of distributing 500,000 meters in tiers to their customers in Plateau.

He stated this yesterday at the JED flag-off ceremony of Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Scheme at Kangang Phase 2 community in Rantya-Gyel in Bukuru local government area of the state, stating that there are certain challenges they are facing before this could be materialised, especially as customs duties are still being increased. He reiterated that they took it up on Monday with the House of Senate when they were privileged to be granted audience by the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, adding that they would roll out 150,000 meters next year.

According to him, NERC thought it wise to bring the Distribution Licenses and MAPs to a joint partnership that would bridge the metering gap and eliminate estimated billing. Mitshell said that he was happy that JED has joined a few other distribution companies in commencing the scheme, adding that because of the improvement in the quality of their service, JED is now one of the best Discos in Nigeria in terms of handling customers’ complaints.

According to him, the security of electrical installations is everyone’s business and MAP has ushered customers into a more sophisticated market, where they pay before they consume. The Marketing Officer of JED, the representative of NERC, the community leader of Rantya-Gyel, state commissioner for Water Resources and Energy, and the Executive Director of MUJEC International Limited, Akeem Balogun all sent their goodwill messages.
