We need organization, implementation to bring productive change to Nigeria, says Osinbajo

Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has said that Nigeria needs to become very organized in order to achieve the impactful change the citizens aspire for.

He made the statement at the book launch of ‘From Consumption To Production: The Whys and Ways Out of Failed Industrialization In Nigeria’ which held at the Ladi Kwali Hall Sheraton, Abuja.

According to Osinbajo, the book is instructive for policy makers, policy executors to learn a lot on how to move the country from a consumption nation to a productive.


“In this book there is a lot we need to take away especially policy makers, policy executors the book gives a complete description on how to make Nigeria work. We need organization to make this country work. We have all the needed academics and knowledge and they are not doing badly so we need to learn how to implement things,” he said.

The Vice President stressed that Nigeria needs a positive structure that can lead to productive change in the country. He identified Agriculture, Manufacturing and Services as aspects that should be deliberately and strategically developed to bring about the needed change by government in partnership with the private sector.

“As regards industrialization, we can’t produce everything but there are certain things we need to look at, like Machine tools, we can decide we want to train, we have good people and when we have target areas then we can implement them strategically,” he added.

The book, written by the visiting Professor United Nations University, the Open University, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom and former Director, UN Habitat Kenya, Prof. Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka was reviewed by Secretary-General, Committee of Vice-Chancellors, Prof. Michael Faborode.

Dignitaries at the event includes, Chairman, Savannah Centre for Diplomacy and Development (SCDD), Prof. Ibrahim Gambari; Representative of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Femi Majekodunmi; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, Senator Babafemi Ojodu, former Inspector General of Police, Solomom Arase, and, Prince Clement Haastrup, who was the chief launcher.
