We’ll equip 200 youths with decoration skills- Midas interior boss

A space design company, Midas Interiors, has partnered with the Lagos State Government to empower 200 youths with modern interior design skills that will allow them compete with their peers globally.

The free masterclasses designed by the firm is targeted at bridging the knowledge gap and promoting professionalism within the creative industry.

The target of the free masterclass would be to deepen participants knowledge and skills in interior design and decoration that could assist them become the employers of labour in the country.

The initiative, which is in collaboration with the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art, is themed: “Beyond Aesthetics: The Power of Functional and Timeless Interiors’, and would be held in phases to ensure participants get the skills before leaving the masterclasses.

Speaking on the motive behind the initiative, the Chief Executive Officer of Midas Interiors Limited, Mabel Nwanegbu, in a statement on Monday, stated that the masterclass is more than just a training session.

She said: “it is a platform to empower and educate the next generation of interior designers through hands-on experience, mentorship, and expert insights.

“We aim to bridge the knowledge gap, support skill development, encourage mentorship and give back by supporting creativity, education, and community growth in the design industry.

“This training is not just a workshop, it is a stepping stone toward a more inclusive and empowered creative sector,” she said.

The Midas boss explained that the decision to partner with LSETF and the Yemisi Shyllon Museum was deliberate, citing shared values around creativity, education, and entrepreneurship.

“My team and I considered their antecedents and the value they can add to our participants. At the end of the day, the goal is to ensure participants receive high-quality mentorship and real-world insights
“I am intentional about impacting others, what is worth doing is worth doing well,” Nwanegbu emphasised.

She added that the masterclass will include practical sessions, comprehensive training materials, and mentorship opportunities, with participants receiving a certificate of participation upon completion.

Nwanegbu, who has been at the forefront of promoting functional design in Nigeria, expressed confidence that the initiative will ignite long-term growth for participants.

“At the end of the session, they will leave more inspired, informed, and ready to take the next step in their design journey.

“This is a step from mediocrity and naivety to professionalism,” she noted.
