The media department of Mercyland Television, representing Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry, has expressed shock over a misleading report in some sections of the media, alleging non-cooperation with authorities.

The story, attributed to the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), claimed that the agency was investigating the church’s use of “miracle water and soap.”

The report was titled, “NAFDAC Investigating Pastor Jeremiah’s Miracle Water, Soap.”

In an official statement signed by Sophia Lloyd, spokesperson for Mercyland Television, the ministry rejected the claims, stating that the article misrepresented their relationship with NAFDAC. The church said that it is law-abiding and operates in accordance with Nigeria’s constitution, particularly Sections 38 and 39, which protect religious freedom.

The ministry acknowledged receiving a letter from NAFDAC’s Asaba office dated August 27, 2024, regarding their spiritual healing items. However, they pointed out that the short notice given to the church was inadequate for proper representation. The church responded by writing to NAFDAC headquarters in Abuja, requesting an extension to appear before the agency.

Additionally, the ministry disclosed that a police investigation is currently underway regarding allegedly forged receipts submitted by a nominal complainant to NAFDAC. The ministry highlighted discrepancies in the receipts, including altered dates and details that do not match the church’s official records. Despite notifying NAFDAC of these issues, the ministry claims it has not received any response from the agency.

The church categorically denied any allegations of using NAFDAC’s name to deceive the public, as suggested by a national daily. They clarified that they have never sold consumable products under the guise of miracle items, and their spiritual products are an expression of religious belief, not subject to NAFDAC regulation.

Contrary to claims that the ministry is uncooperative, representatives from Christ Mercyland, including their legal team, attended a meeting with NAFDAC on September 2, 2024, in Asaba. The church insists that it has fully cooperated with the investigation and expressed surprise at the false portrayal of their stance in the media.

Christ Mercyland Deliverance Ministry expressed deep disappointment with the national daily for not seeking the church’s side of the story before publishing. They accused the publication of spreading false narratives and undermining the ongoing investigation. The ministry warned that it might pursue legal action against the newspaper for alleged unethical journalism.

The ministry urged the public to disregard the article, labelling it as unfounded and misleading.

They said the church remains committed to practising its faith and will continue to engage with NAFDAC to resolve any misunderstandings.

“We stand committed to true Christianity and the guiding principles of our right to freedom of religion and worship,” the statement read. The ministry assured that it will continue to serve its congregation, undeterred by external pressures.

The church reiterated that the investigation by NAFDAC is still ongoing, and they will continue to cooperate fully with the agency to clarify the matter.

Meanwhile, they encouraged their followers to remain steadfast in their faith.
