Why I chose Ozoemena as acting CJ, by Ugwuanyi
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has explained that he chose Justice Afojulu Ozoemena as acting Chief Judge based on the order of seniority of Enugu High Court judges as confirmed by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Ugwuanyi stated this, yesterday, while swearing in Ozoemena in Enugu, following the retirement of Justice Ngozi Emehelu as Enugu CJ, on September 7, 2021.
The governor stated that the 1999 Constitution did not contemplate vacancy in the office of the state’s CJ, given the sensitivity of the office and its functions.
Responding, Ozoemena thanked God for making it possible for him to be sworn in as acting CJ and appreciated Ugwuanyi for finding him worthy of elevation.
He paid glowing tributes to Emehelu for the quality leadership she provided in the state’s judiciary and promised to keep all the worthy legacies she left behind as well as improve on them.
