The Primate and General Overseer of the Seed of Christ Golden Church, Solomon Moses Mustapha, popularly known as Baba Sebioba, has explained why many genuineChristians find it difficult to succeed in Nigerian politics.

The cleric, who spoke during a media briefing ahead of his 57th birthday celebration scheduled for May 27, 2026, in Ibadan, said many people wrongly clamour for Christians to occupy elective positions without understanding the realities of today’s political space.

According to him, past events have shown that true Christians rarely reach the top, as they often lack the qualifications to thrive in the nation’s political system.

He explained that Nigeria’s leadership challenge is largely a result of human trial and error, noting that people now choose leaders based on wealth, influence, and connections rather than divine direction.

“Before Israel chose a king, they consulted the prophet, and the prophet chose for them. But in Nigeria today, people choose leaders based on money, influence, and connections. If you lack these, you may not succeed. So, we are choosing based on human reasoning, not God’s direction,” he said.

Sebioba, while cautioning Nigerians against playing the religious card during elections, stressed that not everyone who bears a Christian name or attends a church is truly born again.

According to him, having a Christian identity does not automatically translate to Christ-like virtues or good leadership qualities.

“What we need are born-again Christians who have the mind of Christ and can follow God’s leading. However, such people often lack the financial strength needed to get into power, and that remains a major challenge in Nigeria,” he added.

The cleric, however, urged those in authority to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity and to seek foreign assistance where necessary.

“I believe the government is aware of the situation. If I were in their position, I would know what steps to take. If the challenge exceeds their capacity, they should seek international support because the situation has become serious,” he further stated.
