Wike’s attorney general dies

Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Emmanuel Chinwenwo Aguma (SAN), is dead. A source in Government House, Port Harcourt, told The Guardian that the attorney general died yesterday of undisclosed ailment abroad.

Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Emmanuel Chinwenwo Aguma (SAN), is dead. A source in Government House, Port Harcourt, told The Guardian that the attorney general died yesterday of undisclosed ailment abroad.

Aguma, who was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, was secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Port Harcourt Branch, between 2000 and 2002 and was elected chairman in 2006, an office he held until 2008.In 2015, Governor Nyesom Wike appointed him the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, a position he held until his death yesterday.

On July 10, 2015, the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee conferred the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on him, alongside 20 others, who were later sworn in on September 21, the same year.

Aguma is regarded as one of the most outstanding commissioners of the intelligential stock. An aide to the governor referred to him as “the finest, purest and the very best.”Though the Government House was yet to comment of his death as at press time, but the state chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), through its spokesperson, Chris Finebone, said the party was profoundly shocked at his passage.“The leadership and members of APC in Rivers State commiserate with the Aguma family and the entire people of Rivers State over the death of Emma Aguma,” he said.
