Construction work on the multi-million naira flyover at T-junction in Nike axis of Enugu State begins today. The state government, yesterday, also announced the closure of the road, ordering motorists to make use of alternative routes.

A team, led by Commissioner for Information, Chidi Aroh, dropped the hint during a visit to the yard of the contractor, IDC Construction Limited, where it promised that the project would be delivered before the end of this year.

Accompanied by his Works and Housing counterparts, Greg Nnaji and Vitus Okechi, Aroh said they were delighted, as the infrastructure would ease vehicular traffic.

His words: “Today, we have seen the level of preparedness of IDC, the company that the government has contracted to do the T-Junction flyover bridge.

“I am sure that we are all aware that the government has, as a result of this construction, directed that the road be shut down from 12 midnight today (Tuesday) to allow construction work to start in earnest.

“We have also reconfirmed from IDC their readiness to start full construction work tomorrow (Tuesday). You know construction is a process. Clearing and moving in equipment are part of the process.

Also speaking, Nnaji said the contractor had mobilised for the project. He said: “Our responsibility, in the next 48 hours, is to ensure that work starts in earnest. The three links to T-Junction would be closed by 12 midnight. Part of why we are here is to see the preparedness of the contractor. Over there, you can see the concrete blockages. By tomorrow (today), the actual setting will begin.

“The five designated lanes for diversion are on air. We will all make sure that this big project is realised. Enugu people are waiting. The world is waiting. It is a state-of-the-art bridge and we can’t wait any longer to have it.”
Nnaji added: “The state government has been very proactive in planning for this construction.”
