Police in Bosnia arrested three individuals suspected of human trafficking, officials said Wednesday, while also rescuing a large number of children during an operation.
The children were found during a raid Tuesday on an undisclosed location in northeastern Brcko district, according to a police statement, which added that the children were taken to a “safe location”.
Authorities said three suspects were detained on suspicion of human trafficking and child abuse.
Police said the investigation was ongoing and did not provide details about the number of children rescued, their ages, or nationalities.
When contacted by AFP, police in Brcko District did not provide further information, saying only that prosecutors, the country’s social welfare agency and the Red Cross were assisting investigators.
