Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has described an elder statesman, Tanko Yakasai, as a source of inspiration for him and the country in general.

He insisted that Nigeria was direly in need of Yakasai’s vast experience for nation building.

Jonathan maintained: “I have no doubt that you will continue to serve as a source of inspiration and a testimony to the fact that honesty, selflessness and love for one another, are tenets we all need to imbibe to build the nation of our dream.”

Jonathan, represented by a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, expressed delight that, even at old age, Yakasai had “displayed a robust sense of activism, openly expressing your reservations once you are convinced that some situations and actions are likely to pose a threat to our common good and national interest.”

In his response to all the accolades heaped on him by the dignitaries that attended the event, Yakasai blamed past military regimes for the challenges facing the nation.
