YMCA intensifies malaria fight with community outreach in Lagos

World Malaria Day 2026.

The Central Club of Lagos, in partnership with the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA), Lagos, has conducted a community medical outreach in Ikoyi to commemorate the World Malaria Day 2026.

The event, held at the YMCA premises on Awolowo Road, attracted residents from Obalende, Falomo and Ikoyi, who benefited from free malaria testing and distribution of anti-malaria drugs. Medical personnel and volunteers attended to participants while also providing health education on malaria prevention and early treatment.

Speaking at the outreach, the President of the Central Club, YMCA of Lagos, Adedolapo Ayoola, highlighted the importance of grassroots initiatives in reducing the burden of malaria, stressing that early diagnosis and access to treatment are key to saving lives.

The initiative forms part of efforts to support ongoing public health campaigns aimed at combating malaria, a disease that remains a major health challenge in Nigeria.

Ayoola further stressed the need for stronger support and collective action, urging residents to maintain a clean environment and seek prompt medical attention at the onset of symptoms.

Some beneficiaries of the free insecticide-treated nets distributed at the event expressed appreciation, noting that the programme had also enlightened them on effective preventive measures.
