Seek truce in Oyo APC crisis

The Yoruba Leaders of Thought (YLT), a socio-political group in South-West region of Nigeria, has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, for conceding defeat to Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The group also congratulated Adeleke on his victory, saying that Oyebamiji’s decision to accept the result had helped to ease tension and avert a potentially protracted legal battle that could have further divided the state.

Leader of the group and nonagenarian, Tajudeen Olusi, yesterday said that the peaceful outcome of the election demonstrated the need for Yoruba politicians to respect the law and avoid violence in pursuit of political ambitions.

Olusi, who spoke on behalf of the group, said Adeleke’s acceptance by his major opponent would enable the governor to concentrate on governance without the distraction of a contentious election dispute.

The group also commended President Bola Tinubu for what it described as his role in ensuring that the election was free, fair and peaceful.

In a congratulatory letter to Adeleke, signed by its National Secretary, Bayo Aina, the YLT said the governor’s victory across the state demonstrated his acceptance by the electorate.

Meanwhile, the YLT has established a fact-finding and reconciliation committee to examine the state of the APC across the South-West and recommended measures for resolving internal disputes ahead of the 2027 elections.

The committee, chaired by former Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Asimiyu Alarape, is expected to engage party leaders and stakeholders across the zone in a bid to strengthen unity within the APC.
