An All Progressives Congress (APC) ward meeting in the Oredo Local Council Area of Edo State was abruptly cut short yesterday after some youths repeatedly booed Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The suspected protesters chanted “oppression”, “oppression”, and “no more neglect”, “no more use and dump”.

The youths, who disrupted the governor’s address at the Oredo East meeting held at Garrick Memorial along Ekewan Road, also accused the administration of neglecting them after they allegedly worked for the governor’s 2024 election.

The protesters reportedly interrupted the governor several times as he attempted to address party members, forcing him to halt his speech.

A witness, Madam Esohe, said: “The area was tense. The youths defied all entreaties by party leaders and continued to chant that they had been dumped and neglected after supporting the governor’s emergence during the election.”

The development, according to her, created confusion at the meeting as attempts to continue the engagement were frustrated by the youths’ repeated interruptions.

IN another development, the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has warned criminals, sponsors of violence and individuals seeking to arm people for political purposes that the state will not provide a safe haven for criminality.

Oborewvori declared that offenders would face the full weight of the law irrespective of their political affiliation or relationship with the government.

Oborevwori gave the warning yesterday when the newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba.

The governor’s warning comes against the backdrop of growing security concerns across parts of the country and the approach of another electioneering cycle, with the governor stressing that his administration would not allow politics to be used as a justification for violence or the proliferation of firearms.

HOWEVER, Okpebholo, yesterday, said President Bola Tinubu has embarked on difficult reforms aimed at developing Nigeria and improving the future of its citizens.

Okpebholo stated this while addressing members of APC at Ikaladerhan Primary School, Okada, in Ovia North East Local Council Area of the state as part of his statewide tour of the 18 local council areas to meet party members and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Accompanied by his deputy, Dennis Idahosa; APC State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, among others, Okpebholo said although the reforms being implemented by the Federal Government are difficult, they were necessary for national development.
