Yuletide : Ndukuba implores President Tinubu to inspire hope in young Nigerians
Urges political leaders to show concern about plight of the common man
The Primate of All Nigeria, (Anglican Communion) Most Rev Henry Ndukuba has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to inspire hope in young Nigerians and create opportunities for the young people to thrive.
He described Christmas as a season of joy, love and care for one another and urged those in authority to show concern about the plight of the common man in the country.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Ndukuba lamented that inspite of the high level of unemployment, and illiteracy in the country, the young people are only seeing flamboyance being displayed by our legislators.
He accused the legislators in the House of Representatives and the state House of Assembly of encouraging unemployment in Nigeria, because they are the ones that award contracts and also bring their companies to take the same contracts.
He said: “Yet they will receive all the gratuities and allow allowances and still get all the all the contracts that are coming instead of the young Nigerians. The young people know that recruitment in the police and other security agencies are shared by these legislators. Legislators, they share them. So this nation is so endemically corrupt that it will take the help of God for us to really deal with the system. So that everybody we get the goods that is due to them’.
Ndukuba lamented that one of the things we are seeing in our times is the weaponization of religious identities which has made us to either include or exclude people, attack or discriminate against, to subdue and control adding that if the love of God is shared among us as human persons, we will treat others with respect and love.
The Primate stressed the need to treat one another as human persons created by God adding that in this this time of lack and hardship in country, there is need to bear one another’s burden and help each other”.
He said, ‘We are celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, as we celebrate the Christmas, God is saying, do not be afraid, as if that is address to us in Nigeria given the circumstances around within which we are celebrating Christmas,”so God is saying, do not be afraid of the issues that are confronting us because there is a tiding of good news, there is a tiding of great joy and hope is not lost” .
According to the Primate,” The massage of the angel is Peace on earth and goodwill towards men. As citizens, let us pursue the things that make for peace because we are celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace, He has come to reconcile us with one another and with God and to make peace reign on earth. The celebration of 2023 will usher in season of peace in our nation and safety for the citizens.
On his assessment of the security situation of the country, Ndukuba said, “I don’t think there has been any change in the security situation of the country , if there is anything, it has deteriorated. The kidnappings are still going on but we appreciate the efforts of the government security agencies to remedy the situation. The situation of Nigeria is not irredeemable, there is still hope that things will be better”. Our youths are seeing the flamboyance being displayed by our legislators, this nation is endemically corrupt that it will take years to salvage the situation.
Some people are benefiting from the ongoing insecurity in the country. Corruption must be dealt with””.
Ndukuba observed that :We have hope in the new government and there is hope that as we step into the new year, things will get better for our nation having presented the 2024 budget”.
He also urged the federal Government to address the exploitation of our mineral resources especially by the Chinese stressing that what the Chinese nationals are doing in Nigeria cannot be done in their own country.
