The Zamfara State All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations of its involvement in a plan to bribe election petition tribunal judges in the suit by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
APC has also refuted allegations that it orchestrated a purported plan to rally members of the state House of Assembly to impeach Governor Dauda Lawal, as contained in a leaked audio by one Anas Anka.
The APC spokesperson in Zamfara, Yusuf Idris, dismissed the allegations in a statement on Wednesday, attributing them to potential panic on the part of the PDP as the ongoing tribunal proceedings indicated a possible favourable outcome for APC.
Idris stated that Anka, the individual behind the leaked audio, was neither a supporter nor a card-carrying member of the APC in Zamfara State and noted that Anka’s purported connection to Governor Dauda Lawal does not align with his true affiliation with the APC.
He alleged that the media outlet Thunder Blowers, associated with Anka, had been funded and supported by Governor Lawal Dare to achieve his political mission while Bello Matawalle was the governor.
“Also, it is on record that the operational vehicle of the thundershowers was donated by the same Lawal Dare, and even the office accommodation that houses the medium is owned by Dauda and not any APC official in the state,” Idris stated.
In response to accusations against Senator Abdul Aziz Yari, whom Anka had alleged to have collected money from, the Idris noted that Yari had been out of the country for an extended period, implying that the allegations against the senator were baseless.
The APC spokesperson also stated that “When the INEC decided to give the governorship seat to the PDP after the election as well as when the tribunal gave the PDP Maradun ll state House of Assembly to the PDP,
“We (APC) didn’t shout injustice to obstruct proceedings of the tribunal, so the PDP must know that the Nigerian judiciary cannot be intimidated with the frivolous unguarded allegations advanced by the PDP through Anas because we already know their gimmick and it will fall like a house of cards.”
He, however, urged all law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and expose those responsible for the alleged deception, including the person who recorded the audio.
