Zamfara gov donates N100m to flood victims in Gummi LGA
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has extended a lifeline to communities in Gummi Local Government Area, donating N100 million and 10,000 bags of foodstuff to those affected by recent flooding. The Governor made the announcement on Saturday during a visit to the flood-ravaged areas to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the heavy rainfall.
According to a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the flooding, which submerged numerous homes, has left many residents in dire need of assistance. Governor Lawal, deeply moved by the plight of the affected communities, assured them of his administration’s commitment to providing immediate and long-term solutions to prevent future occurrences.
The Governor’s visit began at the palace of the Emir of Gummi, His Royal Highness Justice Lawal Hassan, where he offered his condolences and received blessings before touring the devastated areas. The Governor’s entourage then proceeded to Gayari town to further assess the extent of the damage. He confirmed that a team of engineers had already been dispatched to the affected areas to identify the root causes of the flooding and develop a sustainable solution.
During the visit, Governor Lawal expressed his solidarity with the flood victims, stating, “Today, I am in Gummi Local Government Area to offer my condolences and conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the communities devastated by flooding caused by heavy rainfall last week.”
He continued, “Immediately after learning about the unfortunate incident, I sent two of my commissioners to visit and offer condolences to the affected communities. Following the Deputy Governor’s visit, I dispatched a team of engineers to examine and evaluate the root causes of the flooding. It is important to note that I have instructed the immediate commencement of work to prevent such a situation in the future.”
In addition to the N100 million financial support, Governor Lawal announced the distribution of 10,000 bags of foodstuff, including rice, maize, and millet, to the flood victims. He also revealed plans to allocate new lands to the affected victims, allowing them to rebuild their homes away from flood-prone areas.
“I want to take this opportunity to inform you that I have donated 10,000 bags of food, including rice, maize, and millet, to be distributed among the flood victims,” said the Governor. “I am also, on behalf of the Zamfara State Government, supporting the affected victims with N100 million. In addition, all affected victims will be allocated lands away from the danger zone so that they can build new houses.”
Governor Lawal’s swift response to the disaster and his generous donations have been widely praised, with many viewing it as a testament to his administration’s dedication to the welfare of Zamfara’s citizens. His actions underscore the state’s commitment to mitigating the impact of natural disasters and ensuring that vulnerable communities receive the support they need to rebuild their lives.
