The former National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Dr. Najeem Usman Yasin, has commended the Zamfara State Governor, Hon. Dauda Lawal, for his sustained support to the union and his commitment to improving the welfare and socio-economic wellbeing of transport workers across the State.
Dr. Najeem, who is the Boshorun of Offa Kingdom and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Committee of the NURTW, made this known while briefing journalists, including officials of the Zamfara Media Advocacy Platform (ZAMAP).
He particularly commended Governor Dauda Lawal for the successful completion of the comprehensive renovation of the NURTW State Council Secretariat located along the Eastern Bypass Road in Gusau, the State capital.
The NURTW chieftain described Governor Lawal as a leader worthy of commendation for recognizing the importance of the union and supporting initiatives aimed at improving the working conditions of its members.
According to him, the renovation of the secretariat has provided the NURTW with a more befitting and conducive administrative environment and further demonstrated the state government’s commitment to partnering with the union for the development of the transportation sector.
Dr. Yasin, who served as the pioneer Zamfara State Chairman of the NURTW, following the creation of the State in 1996, during the military administration of Colonel Jibril Bala Yakubu, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Governor Lawal for what he described as his unwavering commitment to the welfare of NURTW members across Zamfara State.
He said the governor’s interventions were significant because they addressed some of the practical challenges confronting transport workers, particularly in the areas of mobility, economic empowerment and improved transportation services.
50 Toyota Hiace Buses
Commenting on the recent distribution of 50 Toyota Hiace buses to NURTW members across the State, Dr. Najeem described the initiative as a passionate and commendable intervention that would have a direct impact on the lives of the beneficiaries.
He noted that the provision of the buses would improve the socio-economic wellbeing of transport workers by creating opportunities for them to increase their earnings and sustain their families.
The former NURTW further observed that the initiative would contribute to enhancing the efficiency, reliability and quality of public transportation services across Zamfara State.
“This is a practical intervention that directly touches the lives and livelihoods of our members. It will not only empower the beneficiaries economically but will also contribute to improving transportation services across the state,” he said.
Appeal for Support
The former NURTW National President urged members of the union across Zamfara State to reciprocate Governor Dauda Lawal’s gesture by continuing to support his administration and backing his bid for a second term in office.
He appealed to NURTW members to appreciate government policies and programmes that directly affect their welfare, stressing that sustained cooperation between the government and transport workers would contribute to the development of the state.
Dr. Najeem also called on other state governors across Nigeria to emulate Governor Dauda Lawal by investing in transportation infrastructure and implementing empowerment programmes that directly benefit transport workers.
He said such interventions would not only improve the welfare of transport workers but would also contribute to job creation, poverty reduction, economic empowerment and a more efficient public transportation system.
The former NURTW boss, Dr. Najeem Usman Yasin Makaman Gusau, urged the beneficiaries of the vehicles to ensure prompt payment and avoid defaulting on their payment, so that others can also benefit from the scheme. He further advised them to use the vehicles judiciously and strictly for the purpose for which they were provided.
Dr. Najeem Usman Yasin also used the occasion to extend his heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Government, the people of Zurmi Emirate and the family of the late Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi over his demise.
He described the death of the traditional ruler as a great loss to the people of Zurmi Emirate and the entire Zamfara State.
He prayed Allah to forgive the late monarch’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest and give his family, the people of Zurmi Emirate and the government and people of Zamfara State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
