Mr. Isaac Adinoyi Salami has been honoured with the Most Outstanding Cloud & Cybersecurity Executive of the Year award at the 2021 Nigeria Technology Awards (NiTA), held in Lagos, in recognition of his transformative leadership in securing and modernizing the enterprise infrastructure of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).
The award reflects his measurable contributions in strengthening cybersecurity governance within Nigeria’s largest electricity distribution franchise, enhancing operational resilience, and embedding Zero Trust security principles within a multi-state critical infrastructure network.
At the time of the award, Mr. Salami served as a cybersecurity architect with TechPoint Information Systems, where he led the security redesign of IBEDC’s enterprise ticketing and customer service management platform. IBEDC serves Oyo, Ogun, Osun, and Kwara States, as well as parts of Ekiti, Kogi, and Niger States—covering an estimated population exceeding 25 million people.
His work transitioned IBEDC from fragmented legacy architecture to a Zero Trust Architecture framework. The transformation included granular role-based access controls, strict least-privilege enforcement, multi-layered identity verification, network segmentation of critical assets, and integration of continuous monitoring systems with SIEM-based audit mechanisms.
Following implementation, SLA breach rates declined from approximately twenty-eight percent to below eight percent, average service-response times improved by about forty-five percent, and unauthorized access incidents reduced by more than sixty percent. Escalation tracking accuracy improved significantly, while regulatory compliance and audit readiness were strengthened.
The 2021 edition of NiTA attracted over 120 nominations in the Cloud and Cybersecurity category from professionals and organizations nationwide. Winners were selected through a structured review process involving technical evaluation and impact assessment.
Mr. Salami’s selection from a competitive pool of technology leaders underscores the national significance of his cybersecurity interventions, which strengthened service delivery, protected sensitive customer data, and enhanced digital resilience within one of Nigeria’s most vital power distribution networks.
Expressing his appreciation, Salami stated, “This recognition affirms the importance of securing critical infrastructure through modern cybersecurity architecture. It reinforces my commitment to building resilient systems that protect operational continuity and public trust.”
The Event Director of the Nigeria Technology Awards, Felix C. Nnuji, commended his achievements, stating, “Mr. Salami’s work represents a benchmark in cloud and cybersecurity leadership. His transformation of IBEDC’s infrastructure demonstrates how secure architecture can directly improve operational performance and protect national critical infrastructure at scale.”
