In a decisive move against political incitement, Comrade Timi Frank, an influential opposition leader and former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has demanded the immediate suspension and arrest of Senator Francis Fadahunsi. Frank’s outcry comes in response to the Senator’s alleged inflammatory remarks regarding the upcoming Osun State governorship election, remarks that Frank deems dangerous to Nigeria’s democracy.
Frank asserts that statements capable of inciting electoral violence must not be tolerated under any circumstances. He urged security agencies to take swift action against Fadahunsi, emphasizing the severity of the situation.
“I condemn the comment of Senator Francis Fadahunsi’s comment strongly and call on the security agencies to immediately act, despite his position, to arrest the senator with all urgency.”
The controversial statement erupted after a video surfaced online featuring Senator Fadahunsi, where he was heard speaking in Yoruba, accusing members of the Accord Party of attacking APC supporters and inciting violence. Frank argues that such remarks pose a profound threat to peace and security during elections.
He said, “The Senate must immediately suspend such a senator who can make such unguarded statements. We want to see action taken as an example to every person involved in election violence.”
The implications extend beyond just one election, as Frank connects Fadahunsi’s comments to a broader strategy purportedly orchestrated by the APC as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. He draws a stark comparison to the treatment of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, stressedwho faced consequences for his own controversial remarks.
Frank further questioned the inconsistency with which political figures are treated based on their party affiliation, asserting, “If such a statement had been made by an opposition Senator or anybody in the opposition, the person would have been in prison by now.”
In an appeal that resonates beyond Nigeria’s borders, Frank has called on the United States Government and other international entities to monitor the situation closely. “I call on the US government, President Donald Trump, the UK, EU, and the entire international community not to remain quiet over such an incendiary statement coming from a serving senator in Nigeria,” he urged, advocating for potential measures against politicians whose statements threaten the democratic process.
Frank’s also addressed the citizens of Osun State as he stressed the importance of a free and fair election.
“The will of the people must count in Osun. Nigerians should not take this Osun election lightly if they decide to rig it.”
He encourages voters not to be intimidated by threats of violence, urging them to defend their votes and stand up against any unjust actions.
Furthermore, he holds Fadahunsi and the ruling party responsible for any potential violence stemming from the election, making it clear that accountability must be enforced: “If anything happens in Osun State, this senator and the ruling party must be held responsible.” He calls upon security agencies to remain neutral, ensuring that they do not contribute to the harassment of citizens and opposition members.
In a climate where political rhetoric can incite real-world violence, Timi Frank stands firm in his demand for justice and accountability, asserting that the outcome of the Osun election will be pivotal not only for local governance but for the integrity of Nigeria’s entire democratic process—and serves as a harbinger for what is to come in the 2027 general elections.
