A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Austine Ibok, has launched a political movement to mobilise support for the re-election of Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, and his Deputy, Peter Odey, in the 2027 governorship election.

The movement, known as the United Coalition Movement for Prince Otu and Odey (UCMPOO), was unveiled following the declaration and adoption of Otu as its preferred candidate for the 2027 election.

Ibok, who is the Director-General of the movement, said UCMPOO was established as a broad-based political platform to mobilise support for the governor and promote reconciliation among political stakeholders in the state.

He said the movement was anchored on the principle of “Built On Integrity” and would seek to bring together members of different political tendencies ahead of the 2027 election.

According to him, the group would focus on engaging opposition members, promoting political reconciliation and integrating old and new members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Following our declaration and adoption of His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, for the 2027 Governorship Election, we proudly introduce UCMPOO as a broad-based political vehicle for the 2027 election.

“Our mandate is simple: to galvanise opposition members, pursue political reconciliation and integration of old APC, while creating a trusted platform through which the Governor can reach out to those who may feel sidelined, unheard or dissatisfied,” Ibok said.

He said the movement would also work towards bridging political differences and uniting stakeholders across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
“We shall build bridges, encourage reconciliation and unite people across the 18 LGAs around a common purpose,” he added.

Ibok added that the movement will operate across the 18 LGAs of the state with the rallying slogan: “United in purpose! One Voice!! One Victory!!!”
