…Vows to lead a new generation of leadership

Founder of the National Youth Alliance (NYA), Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) for the 2027 general election.

Abbas was declared the winner in the early hours of Saturday at the party’s national convention held in Abuja.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, the results were announced at about 5:30 a.m., sparking celebrations among delegates and party supporters.

Abbas, a former political aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stressed that his presidential bid is independent and not linked to any previous political association.

The statement noted that although Abbas previously worked closely with Atiku, who is also seeking the presidency in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), their political relationship ended more than two years ago following a widely acknowledged divergence in political direction.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this candidacy is entirely autonomous. It is neither a proxy movement nor a strategic alignment with any past political principle. It is a direct response to the aspirations of millions of Nigerian youths seeking fresh and uncompromised leadership,” the statement said.

Speaking after his emergence, Abbas described his nomination as the beginning of a new era in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“This milestone represents more than a political victory; it signifies the emergence of a new generation of leadership committed to national renewal, inclusive governance, economic transformation, and youth empowerment,” he said.

According to him, Nigeria is at a defining moment in its history and requires leaders capable of inspiring hope, patriotism and collective action toward national development.
He called on Nigerians across ethnic, religious and political divides to unite behind a common vision of progress, justice, prosperity and national greatness.

“The journey towards a stronger, more prosperous and more united Federal Republic of Nigeria begins now. A new movement, a new direction, and a new Nigeria are set to emerge,” Abbas declared.
He added that details of his campaign’s policy agenda, strategic roadmap, and nationwide engagement plans would be unveiled in due course.

Earlier at the convention, the National Chairman of the ADP, Engr. Yabagi Yusuf Sani, commended delegates, party officials, members, and supporters for their loyalty and commitment to the party.

He said the ADP remains a credible alternative at a time when Nigeria is grappling with economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, poverty, and declining public confidence in government institutions.
“Our country requires a new political attitude. Nigeria needs leaders who understand that public office is a trust, not a privilege for self-enrichment,” Sani said.

He maintained that the ADP stands for service, inclusion, competence, and national unity, adding that the party is committed to building a Nigeria where citizens can live in peace, work with dignity, and enjoy equal opportunities for prosperity.

Sani also stressed the importance of internal democracy, transparency, and accountability within political parties.

“We cannot demand national democracy if we do not practise party democracy. We cannot ask Nigerians to trust us if we do not conduct our affairs with transparency, fairness, and order,” he said.
