Former governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Dr Sokonte Davies, who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), has pledged to contribute to the state’s political stability and economic development
Davies said he was particularly concerned about the political stabilisation of the state, adding that his decision to join the ruling party followed “deep reflection, patriotic conviction, and a clear-eyed assessment” of where he could best serve the people.
His defection to APC came shortly after members of the Rainbow Coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at his residence on Tuesday night.
Wike had subsequently expressed willingness to pursue peace, saying the prolonged political crisis in the state was coming to an end.
Davies said his return to the APC would also enable him to contribute to the re-election bid of President Tinubu and the stability of the country.
He described his time in the ADC as one marked by service and commitment, while thanking the party’s leadership and members, particularly at the national level, for the opportunity to serve and the camaraderie they shared.
He said: “I bear no ill will. Politics is a marketplace of ideas; we can disagree without being disagreeable.”
Davies urged his supporters and associates to remain calm, law-abiding, and focused, calling on them to join hands with like-minded progressives to strengthen the APC and serve the people.
He said: “Let us join hands with like-minded progressives to build the party and serve our people. I call on all who share our ideals to join the APC as we work together for a better future.”
The former governorship aspirant also expressed appreciation to Wike for his “very warm and friendly reception,” the APC National Vice Chairman, Chief Victor Giadom, for facilitating his return to the party, as well as the party’s elders and members for their encouragement and acceptance.
