The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State on Sunday inaugurated the Kwara Central Elders Caucus ahead of the 2027 general elections, with a charge to foster unity and cohesion among party members in the district.
The event, presided over by the party’s state secretary, Alhaji Mustapha Salman Isowo, witnessed the swearing-in of the interim executives and members of the steering committee of the caucus.
The interim executive is led by Alhaji Mustapha Kobe as chairman, with Alhaji Razaq Lawal as coordinator and Alhaji Gani Alawo as secretary. Other members include Mallam Sulaiman Cementi (public relations officer) and Alhaji Abdulrauf Sanni (welfare officer).
In his remarks, Kobe pledged the caucus’ loyalty to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and urged members to promote unity and keep the caucus informed about developments in their localities.
Coordinator of the caucus, Alhaji Razaq Lawal, stressed the need for members to maintain discipline and await the governor’s directive on the choice of APC’s gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 elections.
“We have only one leader in Kwara APC, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. On the issue of the 2027 governorship election, members should stop promoting any aspirant until the governor gives a directive,” Lawal said.
He also cautioned against individuals parading themselves as leaders, declaring that only the newly inaugurated caucus members are the legally recognised leaders of the APC in Kwara Central.
APC state secretary, Isowo, said the inauguration had the full support of the party leadership under Chairman Prince Sunday Fagbemi, who expressed delight that the event was held at the state secretariat and promised a similar exercise in Kwara South.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Politics (Kwara Central), Alhaji Sulaiman Abubakar, confirmed that AbdulRazaq was aware of the caucus inauguration and would provide necessary support for its operations.
