- Targets 1 million votes in Ondo
Adewale Momoh, Akure
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had given the mandate that 25 canvassers should be recruited in each of the polling units across the country as part of strategy ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Coordinator of RHA in Ondo State, Victor Olabimtan, who revealed this, stressed that the structured recruitment of polling unit-level canvassers will form part of the move to secure between 800,000 and one million votes for Tinubu in the state.
Olabimtan, who stated this on Tuesday while inaugurating the state executives of the pro-Tinubu grassroots mobilisation group in Akure, the state capital, described the Renewed Hope Ambassadors as a “child of necessity.”
According to Olabimtan, the group was designed to position itself as a bridge between the Tinubu administration and grassroots communities and will be tasked with countering misinformation and disseminating facts about federal government policies and programmes.
According to the RHA coordinator in the state, with over 3,000 polling units in Ondo State, the multiplier effect of the canvasser strategy would deliver an overwhelming victory.
He said, “This is a big challenge. That is why the RHA has been structured in such a way that he would get these votes. The president has directed that in each of the polling units we should get him 25 canvasses; all these people would be remunerated three months before and two months after.
“The job of winning the election is at the various units, not in the ward, not in the state, and not in Abuja. The target is that these 25 people per unit should be able to bring five people each to come and vote, and you multiply that with the state and nationwide; the election is over and won.
“In Ondo State we have over 3,000 polling units; multiply by 100, and that is the target. We want the situation that when the election is concluded, no one will talk, no one can rig again, and you cannot rig, and you cannot manipulate again; all the votes will be directly transferred to the server, so there’s no room for manipulation. That is why our opponents are busy criticising.”
Olabimtan, who stressed that Tinubu has consistently focused on policy implementation without excessive fanfare, stated that the country has not reached its desired destination but emphasised that progress has been achieved and is already yielding results.
PBAT has so far proved himself as a purposeful leader that is prepared for the job through his renewed hope agenda. The economy was not just in shambles when he took over; it was running on deficit, with government at all levels struggling to pay salaries and meet other financial obligations. All that is now in the past, and things are gradually getting better.
“Governance is no child’s play. Some governments that came before PBAT adopted a reactionary approach in sharp contrast to the proactive approach of the current government. By adopting long-term and goal-orientated strategies, this government has moved beyond reactionary policy-making to proactively address complex challenges and opportunities.”
