The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) don in the Department of Public Administration A lecturer in the Department of Public Administration, Professor Shehu Mustapha Liberty, has provided an analytical political perspective on the renomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 general elections in the country.
Liberty, at an event hosted by the Tinubu/Shettima Continuity Forum (TSGF) in Borno State, unanimously described the renomination of Shettima to re-contest election within the context of political continuity and the administrative stability of the Nigerian state.
The varsity don, argued that the All Progressive Congress (APC)-led government’s decision was based on a pragmatic calculation of the Vice President’s numerous performance and his role within the broader framework of the President’s Renewed Hope” agenda.
“The APC is not gambling with the destiny of 220 million Nigerians,” the professor stated. He pointed out that the Vice President’s background as a seasoned technocrat and former executive has provided a stable hand for the federal government’s engagements both at home and abroad,” said Liberty.
However, the varsity academic did not shy away from the underlying developmental challenges. He urged the leadership to leverage the stability of the ticket to address structural issues, including the prevailing insecurity and the socio-economic disparities in Northern Nigeria.
The public lecture, which also drew attention to the internal dynamics of the ruling party in Borno state, concluded with a call for the government to remain focused on its primary obligation: the protection and welfare of the Nigerian citizenry in the six geo-political zones.
