…Cautions against partisan security narratives

The APC Volunteer has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s reaffirmation of Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, describing the decision as a demonstration of confidence, continuity and strategic leadership.

National Director-General of the group, Sir Victor Walsh Oluwafemi, who stated this in a statement issued on Monday, said the President’s decision would strengthen public confidence in an administration that has remained focused on economic reforms, institutional strengthening and efforts to address the country’s security challenges.

According to him, successful governments are built on trust, consistency and a shared vision, noting that the Tinubu-Shettima partnership has continued to provide leadership during a period of significant national transformation.

Oluwafemi congratulated President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies on the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren, describing the operation as a victory for the country.

“The rescue of innocent children is not merely a security success; it is a restoration of hope and a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to protecting the lives of citizens,” he said.

He commended security personnel for their sacrifices in safeguarding the nation and noted that recent months had witnessed increased coordination among security agencies, intelligence-driven operations and successful rescue missions across different parts of the country.

While acknowledging that insecurity remains a major challenge, Oluwafemi urged sustained investment in intelligence gathering, surveillance technology, border security and the welfare of security personnel.

He, however, expressed concern over attempts by some political actors to exploit security issues for partisan purposes, insisting that national security should not be reduced to a political campaign tool.

“Terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and violent crimes affect all Nigerians irrespective of political affiliation, ethnicity or religion. Every successful rescue operation should unite the country rather than divide it along political lines,” he said.

The APC Volunteer called on political leaders, opinion moulders and public commentators to exercise restraint in their public engagements, warning that irresponsible narratives could undermine public confidence and weaken national unity.

The group reaffirmed its support for the Tinubu administration and urged Nigerians to continue cooperating with security agencies through the provision of credible information aimed at enhancing the country’s security.
