2027: You’re playing Tinubu’s game, Baba-Ahmed warns ADC coalition

The Vice Presidential candidate for the Labour Party during the 2023 elections, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said he is willing to work with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition adopted by the opposition to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

He, however, added that he has not abandoned the Labour Party. The former LP Vice Presidential candidate made this statement while speaking on Arise News on Thursday.

“I have not left Labour Party. I am considering the coalition who have adopted ADC,” said Baba-Ahmed.

Speaking further, he said the opposition was playing the game Tinubu played with former President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he described as a distant anointed, when he lost the election for the third time.

“But they are also playing somebody else’s game. This game is Tinubu’s game. And I’m not praising him in any way whatsoever, but everyone must understand the situation as it were.

“Buhari, after losing the third time, cried to the world that he’s done with politics, and that’s when it began. Tinubu saw the opportunity. It was easy to convince Buhari to come back because he carries a lot of baggage and survives from political donations,” he added.

Spotting the contrast and the similarity with the APC coalition and the ADC coalition, he said that the latter lacks a distant anointed like the APC did, and there would be a very close gap, a tight struggle, and perhaps a not-so-clean primary.

On Nasir El-Rufai, Baba-Ahmed said he found it unbelievable that the former Kaduna State Governor who supported Tinubu in the previous elections is collaborating with the opposition to unseat Tinubu in 2027.

“With due respect, I remember everything between El-Rufai and many other leaders whom he now goes and kneels down before to greet again. I’m gasping for air; I don’t understand what is going on.

“There are people who have been in government for 24 years, and they’ve been out for only 2 years, yet they are crying and shouting that we must throw this government out.”
