The Abia State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to adopt incumbent governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu as its sole candidate for the 2019 governorship election.

Rising from a caucus meeting held at the Government House, Umuahia, Friday night, the party’s state chairman, Chief Johnson Onuigbo said the caucus, as the party’s highest decision-making body, reached the conclusion after deliberating on issues germane to its progress.

A communiqué read on behalf of the caucus by the party’s Secretary, Chief Ibe Nwadioha, noted that the caucus also passed vote of confidence on the governor, as he had made PDP flag to fly higher. While urging members to support the governor’s second term bid, the party commended the state party leadership for upholding its ideals.

Reacting to the endorsement and pronouncement that all aspirants to elective offices will be given a level playing ground, a member of the party, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, described the party’s decision as double-speak and contradictory.
