APC members accuse Okpebholo of lopsided appointments in Edo LG

Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State have appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo to address what they described as lopsided political appointments in the area.

The party loyalists, under the platform of the Edo Concerned Group and led by their coordinator, Osamuyi Osadiaye, expressed concern that appointments into key positions under the current administration have been skewed in favour of a single ward, to the exclusion of others in the LGA.

Osadiaye specifically accused the State Secretary of the APC, Lawrence Okah, of favouring Ward 7 of Oredo LGA in recent appointments while sidelining the remaining 11 wards. He warned that the situation, if left unaddressed, could degenerate into a deeper crisis within the party.

According to him, Oredo LGA comprises 12 wards, which are further divided into various polling units, but appointments so far have allegedly been concentrated in Ward 7 alone.

He listed the positions said to have been filled by individuals from the same ward to include the State Secretary of the APC, Local Government Party Chairman, Assistant Treasurer, Publicity Secretary, member representing Oredo West Constituency in the House of Assembly, and a member of the Edo Produce Board.

Also mentioned were the Member representing Edo South in the Oil and Gas sector, who Osadiaye claimed is the son of the APC State Secretary, along with three Senior Special Assistants, two Special Assistants to the Speaker of the State Assembly, 15 revenue collectors in Oredo, and the Supervisory Councillor for the local government.

He described the development as undemocratic and contrary to the principles of fairness, equity, and inclusion, especially in a party that should reward loyalty and hard work across all its structures.

Osadiaye appealed to Governor Okpebholo to intervene and ensure that other wards in Oredo are fairly represented both at the council and state government levels.

He also called on the governor to resist pressure from those pushing for Ward 7 to produce the next local government chairman, stressing that such a move would further marginalize the other wards.

He expressed hope that Governor Okpebholo, whom he described as a principled leader, would take immediate steps to correct the alleged imbalance and unify the party at the grassroots.

When contacted by phone, APC State Secretary, Lawrence Okah, declined to comment on the allegations.
