APC youth group to lobby Akpabio for Sani Musa as party chairman

Youths from the North Central region, under the umbrella of the North Central APC Youth Vanguard, have announced plans to send a 100-man delegation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, seeking his support for Senator Mohammed Sani Musa’s emergence as the next National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

At an emergency meeting held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, the coalition of youth groups—comprising members from over 1,000 APC support organisations across the zone—said the move was aimed at positioning the region strategically within the party’s power structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, signed by the group’s convener, Comrade Dan Okwa, the youths expressed concerns that the North Central, despite its historical loyalty to the APC, continues to be marginalised in party leadership positions.

“We believe that the North Central must not only be heard but must be seen at the table of power. As we prepare for 2027, it is imperative that we reorganise our internal political architecture and present one of our most credible and tested hands to lead the APC,” the statement read.

The group identified Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger East Senatorial District and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, as the most qualified candidate. According to Okwa, Musa combines loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda with the grassroots appeal and generational balance needed to reposition the APC for electoral victory.

The planned delegation will formally present their case to Senate President Akpabio in Abuja later this week. Okwa explained that the youth leaders would submit a petition highlighting the North Central’s contributions to the party’s survival and successes since its formation, including strong voter mobilisation and organisational loyalty.

While acknowledging other contenders, such as former Nasarawa governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, the coalition described Musa as “a generational bridge” who is capable of attracting the support of both youth and established party structures.

“This is about party stability, strategic renewal, and regional inclusion. Senator Sani Musa embodies these ideals,” Okwa said.

The youth coalition also appealed to party elders and stakeholders across the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory to prevail on Musa to officially declare his interest in the race for the APC’s national chairmanship.

“We are not just advocating for regional equity but for strategic leadership that can prepare the APC for future victories,” the communiqué added.

The group reiterated its loyalty to President Tinubu’s administration and commitment to mobilising the region’s youth for the 2027 elections.
