APGA ends submission of nomination forms for Anambra council polls

All Progressives Grand Alliance

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is set to conclude the submission of nomination forms for the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in Anambra State, as fixed by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC)

After monitoring the extent of compliance with the sale and return of the forms at the Regional Headquarters of APGA in Awka, the State Chairman of APGA, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, ruled out any possibility of an extension of the deadline, adding that the party is bound to follow its Constitution, Provisional Timetable for the 2026 Anambra State Local Government Primary Elections Schedule, and other electoral guidelines.

It was learnt that the party started the sale of the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms on January 27, 2025, and continued until the closing date of February 6 this year.

Obii-Okoye revealed that the patty fixed the cost of Expression of Interest/Nomination Forms for the Chairmanship seat at N6 million, while that of the Councillorship is N600,000.00 for each aspirant.

He explained that female aspirants and persons with disabilities were granted concessions, paying 50 per cent of the fees at N3 million and N300,000, respectively, for the Chairmanship and Councillorship positions, and disclosed that all payments were non-refundable.

Furthermore, he said the screening of Chairmanship and Councillorship aspirants would take place across the 21 local government areas and 326 wards from February 7th to 11, 2026, to determine their eligibility to participate in the party’s primaries. Obi-Okoye, a lawyer, noted that the screening would be followed by an Appeals Panel sitting on February 13 to handle complaints arising from the screening exercise, while the Ward Congresses to elect Councillorship candidates and Ad hoc delegates would hold on February 14 this year.

The State Chairman of APGA pointed out that the Chairmanship Primary Elections would be held on February 15, while appeals arising from the primaries would be resolved in Awka on February 16.
.
Obi-Okoye pointed out that the APGA, like other contesting parties, would turn to ANSIEC for the collection of Nomination and Personal Data Forms (ANSIEC Forms 001, 007 and 008) from Tuesday, February 17, to Saturday, February 21, 2026, while the submission of the completed forms is scheduled for Monday, February 23, to Friday, February 27, 2026.

Further investigation revealed that political campaigns in the public domain will officially commence on the same date and run until midnight on Thursday, August 27, 2026, exactly 24 hours before the August 29 election day, as stipulated by law.
