A political support group, League of APC Support Groups has urged the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar to accept defeat and support the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Bauchi State in the 2027 election.

Tuggar had in March resigned his ministerial position to contest the party governorship ticket of APC. His campaign organisation has insisted that there was no primary election of APC in the state and had petitioned the national chairman to review the candidacy of the former Governor Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar, the flag-bearer of the party.

The Tuggar Campaign team also argued that there should be power rotation to the northern part of the state –where Tuggar hailed from. They said that the region has produced the only governor over 43 years ago while the South has held on to power since then.

While reacting to the position of Tuggar’s camp, the League of APC Support Groups, led by Umar Faruk Bala (Sufi) maintained that Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar, having governed the state between 2015 and 2019 had gathered experiences to lead better and the ex-Minister should accept the decision of party.

Speaking during a press conference on Sunday, Bala Sufi said that politics is known to be about numbers, compromise and concession over divine destiny are key components to describe one’s personal leadership qualities. “Allah in his infinite wisdom has destined M.A Abubakar to fly the ticket of governorship of the party this time around. Bauchi state needs him because he’s tested, trusted and for his being the most qualified and highly experienced to take the realm of leadership of the state, in 2027.

“We therefore call on the Tuggar Foundation and the likes of Shehu Barau Ningi to save their integrity and stop trying hard to jeopardize the process they never participated in good faith. The time of cheap propaganda is over. It is time to bury all grievances of whatever cause and to toe the path of honour by accepting the outcome of the primaries; Congratulate the person who emerged the winner, and join hands with the party to ensure the victory of Mr. President, the gubernatorial candidate as well, other elective positions in the state.
