Bayelsa deputy governor restates military’s input to national unity
Bayelsa State deputy governor, RAdm. Gboribiogha Jonah (rtd.), has said that the Nigerian military, as an institution, contributed more than any other single organ towards the unity of the country.
According to him, it is the gallantry and bravery of members of the armed forces in fighting for Nigeria that sustained the country, pointing out their unflinching loyalty to the nation.He stated this at the Nigerian Army Barracks, Elele, Rivers State, during this year’s West African Social Activities (WASA) programme of the 16 Brigade, Nigerian Army, a platform where families of officers and soldiers socialise.
A statement by his media assistant, Ebi Evinson, quoted the deputy governor as reiterating the need to adequately provide the necessary equipment for the armed forces to enable them effectively carry out their statutory responsibility of protecting the territorial integrity of the nation.
The deputy governor further commended the 16 Brigade based in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, stressing that the state government would continue to partner with the army to sustain that the existing peace in the state.
General Officer Commanding ((GOC), 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Maj. Gen. Jamil Sarham, represented by Brig. Gen. Najaja, congratulated the 16 Brigade for staging a colourful ceremony in respect of the WASA this year.He cautioned officers and soldiers that would be involved in the forthcoming general elections to be very professional in the discharge of election duties.
