Bayelsa, Enugu APC conduct ward congresses

National flag, elections, ballot box

GOVERNOR of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has praised the peaceful conduct and outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congresses held across the state yesterday.
Diri spoke at Sampou-Kalama Ward 6 in the Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Council Area of the state after participating in the congress.

The governor congratulated party delegates for unanimously electing the new leadership in his ward and other wards in the state through a generally accepted consensus and affirmation.
He stressed that politics should not divide the people but rather bring them together, as the goal is to advance development across communities, local council areas, and the state as a whole.

He said the APC national leadership would be proud of the state for the conduct of the congresses and the hitch-free process that produced leaders across the wards.
The governor noted that reports at his disposal indicated that the conduct of the exercise was largely rancour-free across the state.

He expressed optimism that the same process would yield similar outcomes from Saturday’s local council congress and, eventually, the state congress.

In the same vein, APC members held successful ward congresses across the 260 wards in Enugu State.
The congress, held simultaneously across the state, saw party members elect ward executives, as party leaders said was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal structures ahead of future political activities.
Findings indicate that positions were shared among the major political blocs currently influencing the APC structure in the state.

The blocs are aligned with interests linked to the state government, the former state party leadership, and the current caretaker leadership, alongside allied political interests.
Sources within the party disclosed that the arrangement followed a 60–40 sharing formula, with the larger share reportedly going to the bloc associated with the state government’s political structure.
Further investigation revealed that the bloc secured the ward chairmanship and secretary positions across the wards, while other executive positions were distributed among the remaining blocs and allied stakeholders.

Party members who spoke to The Guardian expressed optimism that the arrangement would help sustain internal unity and reduce post-congress disputes that often follow such exercises.
