The Benue State Government has described as unfortunate and an unwarranted insult that does not advance constructive political discourse the comments by the vice presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, about Governor Hyacinth Alia.
   
In a statement, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, said his outburst was a misplaced grudge following the controversy over the recent obstructed visit to the state by the NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
   
Alleging that the incident was set up by those desperate to give Alia a bad name, Tersoo urged the former governor of Kano State to focus on the political challenges in his state rather than interfering in Benue’s internal affairs.
   
However, the Benue PDP New Generation Movement (BPDPNGM) has questioned the genuineness of Governor Alia’s support for President Bola Tinubu over his administration’s planned protest against the president’s ally and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
   
In a statement by Austin Adanwo, BPDPNGM described the planned protest as shameful, divisive, ignorant, anti-democratic, and a display of intolerance, contrary to sections 39 and 40 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
   
It accused the Alia administration of double standards and fake support for Tinubu.
