INEC, police, others assure parties of credible Anambra poll
The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that 7,415,760 Nigerians completed their online pre-registration during Week 8 of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, from October 6 to 12, 2025.
 
The figures were released by the commission yesterday. The online pre-registration process began on August 18, 2025. According to the update, 3,877,330 of the pre-registrants were female (52.28 per cent), while 3,538,430 were male.
  
Meanwhile, ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State, all political parties and their candidates have been assured of a level-playing field. 
 
Regarding CVR, the majority of pre-registrants fell within the youth demographic, with 5,095,056 individuals aged between 18 and 34. Specifically, 1,873,848 were identified as students, and 168,680 as Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
 
Borno State recorded the highest number of voter pre-registrations in the country, with a total of 783,546 entries. Closely following Borno is Osun (632,751) and Lagos with 590,341 pre-registrations. Kebbi and Ogun also showed high numbers with 557,778 and 489,282, respectively.
Lower registration figures were recorded in Enugu, with 19,966, followed by Ondo at 17,121. Ebonyi registered 12,489, while Edo came in with 11,166.
 
Abia recorded the lowest number of pre-registrations with just 6,038. In a related update, INEC also reported data for Week 7 (October 6–10, 2025), during which 1,502,733 Nigerians completed both online and physical registration. This included 878,715 who had completed the online pre-registration and 674,018 who had completed physical registration.
 
Gender distribution during showed 828,563 females (55.14 per cent). The youth bracket continued to dominate, contributing 1,106,731 registrants, while 507,097 were students. The number of PWDs stood at 21,244 for the same period.
IN Anambra, INEC, heads of various security agencies and the media made the pledge during a television discussion organised by TAF AFRICA, a non-governmental organisation funded by the European Union (EU).
 
The event, which had the theme ‘stakeholders’ preparedness for a disability inclusive governorship election in Anambra, also featured discussions on how PWDs can be effectively included in the poll. 
 
INEC, represented by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, assured residents of the state that the Biometric Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) would be deployed for the election, and that results would be uploaded in real-time without complaints of network glitches.
 
The founder and Chief Executive Officer of TAF AFRICA, Jake Epele, stated that the discussion was crucial to determine the level of preparedness of all stakeholders involved in conducting the election.  He stated that the group, which is supported by EU, would continue to rally stakeholders.
