Edo lawmaker urges members to think outside box for adequate representation

Edo Assembly

The lawmaker representing Akoko-Edo Constituency II, Emmanuel Agbaje yesterday urged lawmakers across the country to think “outside the box” in the face of daunting challenges to ensure adequate representation of their constituents.

Besides, he tasked members of the public to always hold them accountable in their actions adding that criticism and not praise singing could bring the best from them.

The lawmaker stated this when he received an award of recognition from the leadership of the National Association of Edo State Students (NAES) at the state house of assembly complex.

Agbaje said “We must think outside the box to see that things we need to do to better the lives of our people are done. We are not scared or afraid of criticism because I represent you, you should make us stand on our toes. I am motivated the more when I am told what I am not doing well so you must not fail to tell us that. We are not here on our own, we are here standing for the people, if we see them smiling we are happy because they are our mirror”

He also called on the students to remain the voice of the people even as he tasked them on taking their education as a priority. “I want to really commend you for considering me fit for this award. I’m grateful and I want to assure you that I will continue to represent you very well.

“I want to say sincerely from the depth of my heart, that before I went to my people seeking their votes for my political office, I had set target. But the circumstances we find ourselves has not really supported our ambition. Be that as it may, we are striving for the best. There will always be some barriers we must always think outside the box. We must do some of those positive things that are possible for our people,”

The president of NAES, David Amenaghawon earler, said Agbaje was chosen for the records he has set in the house even though he is a first timer. “Before we came up with this award, we sample opinions of Edo State students through different platforms and after a consensus through resolution in our general assembly; we considered it an honour to give you this award of excellence.”
