Ekiti Assembly endorses Gov Oyebanji for second term
Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have passed a vote of confidence and endorsed the governor of the state, Biodun Oyebanji, for a second term in office ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The 26-member assembly, comprising 24 All Progressives Congress (APC) and two Social Democratic Party (SDP) lawmakers, unanimously announced the endorsement on Wednesday during the governor’s State of the State Address at the assembly complex as part of activities marking the second anniversary of the Oyebanji-led administration.
The member, representing Ikere Constituency 1, Babatunde Oke, moved the motion for the governor’s endorsement and it was seconded by his counterpart from Ido-Osi Constituency, Babatunde Fawekun.
The Speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye, said that the governor, in the last two years, has demonstrated uncommon commitment toward the development of the state in line with his six-point shared prosperity agenda.
He explained that the lawmakers, as representatives of the people, have felt the impact of the administration’s programmes and policies across the state, hence their decision to support him beyond the first term.
Aribasoye called on the people of the state to support the governor in his quest to transform the state, adding that allowing him to continue beyond 2026 would help consolidate his lofty efforts across major sectors of the economy.
While commending the governor for his support towards the House over the last two years, especially the reconstruction and remodelling of the assembly complex, the speaker urged him to remain resolute and not be distracted during the remaining years of his first tenure.
Delivering his account of stewardship since becoming governor of Ekiti in 2022, Oyebanji noted that his administration has carried out life-impacting projects and programmes in line with its six-point agenda.
He explained that, from infrastructure to education, health, agriculture, governance, social welfare, and other areas, the government has, over the last 24 months, prioritised projects that will add value to the lives of the people.
According to Oyebanji, the administration, in the last year, has expended over one billion naira on land clearing and other support for farmers across the state to ensure massive food production and address rising inflation in food items.
He said, “Mr. Speaker, I would like to assure you that our commitment to upholding our social contract with the Ekiti people remains steadfast and unyielding.
“We are driven by a passionate desire to bring prosperity to Ekiti people in the quickest time possible. We understand the urgency of the development agenda and will do everything within our power to achieve the vision of our founding fathers.”
He commended President Bola Tinubu for his support towards his administration over the last year, noting that, “most of our achievements would have been impossible without his support and encouragement.”
