El-Rufai, opposition leaders collapse Kaduna SDP into ADC

• South-West APC dismisses ADC’s coalition as mere distractions
• ADC denies Bala’s resignation, labels document fake, malicious
• Party urges INEC, security agencies to reject forged documents

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, and political leaders in the coalition group, have collapsed the entire structure of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kaduna State chapter, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a strategic meeting held at the weekend in the state.

The leaders of the opposition group said that the merging of the SDP with ADC would forge unity in the body of the coalition. A statement issued after the meeting by the coalition’s Publicity Secretary, Kaduna State chapter, Darius Kurah, said the meeting was chaired by el-Rufai, who brought together key political figures and stakeholders from across party lines.

“In a landmark political development, the entire structure of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kaduna State chapter, has officially collapsed into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during a strategic coalition meeting held on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

“As part of the resolutions from the meeting, it was announced that the Membership Registration Committee will be formed immediately by the National Working Committee (NWC). The state committee, when constituted, will work with local council and ward committees to begin new membership registrations, as well as revalidation of old ADC members across the state.

“This exercise is aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots base and ensuring organisational readiness for future political contests. The atmosphere was one of renewed optimism, unity, and shared commitment toward a more inclusive and people-centred political process in Kaduna State,” the statement stated.

MEANWHILE, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West geo-political zone has described the orchestrated efforts by some politicians to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 as mere distractions and comedy shows aimed at derailing the ongoing Nigerian project, code-named the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.

In a statement over the weekend, the APC South West Publicity Secretary, Ayobami Afolabi, said the current crop of anti-Tinubu crusaders has nothing to offer Nigeria and Nigerians.

According to him, they are failed politicians who lack ideas on how to add value, having contributed to the Augean stables that the current administration is now cleansing.

HOWEVER, the national leadership of the ADC, under its Acting National Chairman, Nafiu Bala, yesterday, dismissed as fake a resignation letter purportedly attributed to him, describing it as a fraudulent creation by desperate political actors.

The party, therefore, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reject any unauthorised documents and recognise only the leadership of Bala.

In a statement by its Director of Media and Public Affairs in the Office of the National Chairman, Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, the party said that the document, dated May 18, 2025, was neither authored nor signed by Bala and lacks the official insignia of the ADC.

The ADC, therefore, stressed that Bala has not resigned and continues to lead the party in line with its constitution, and described the fake resignation letter as part of a desperate plot to destabilise the party.

Okechukwu urged stakeholders to reject the desperate attempts by power-mongers to destabilise the party but instead join in building a stronger democratic future for the nation.
