The gruesome murder of the Emir of Gobir, which sent shockwaves across Nigeria, has exposed the alarming depth of the country’s security crisis, according to Peter Obi, Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.

The emir’s death, followed by the abduction of 150 people and theft of 1,000 cattle by terrorists, sparked outrage and demands for urgent action.

Obi, writing on his X handle, condemned the government’s inaction, describing the situation as a “national emergency” requiring decisive action, not empty rhetoric

. He called for a declaration of war on insecurity, food crisis, and poverty, noting that Nigeria is now at the mercy of terrorists and bandits.

“Still reeling from the shocking news of the tragic murder of the Emir of Gobir, my earlier message reflected my deep sorrow and dismay. Yet, even those words now feel insufficient to convey the weight of one’s feeling of tragic loss. This most recent atrocity marks the tipping point in the decline of a failing state,” Obi stated.

Obi stressed the need for collective responsibility to revive the commitment to the safety and security of all Nigerians, urging immediate action against the nation’s growing challenges.
